Proposed Caste Syllabus for the Caste of Port Olni


Directions: The Scibe Candidate will complete the essays for each level of standing within the Scribe Caste within the city of Port Olni. The essays will be completed in the order they are placed within the syllabus. Requesting guidance from other scribes is not only allowed but encouraged. Essays can be re-submitted to the High Scribe of Port Olni for acceptance and posting within the city archive as many times as it takes. ((Online sources may be used as well as Artificial Intelligence assistance can be in the creation of essays. Be cognizant that you still have to provide good questions or prompts to the A.I. to get the best essays. Include the A.I. links to its sources in your essay.)) 


Novice Level

Objective: Introduce basic concepts and duties of the Scribe Caste.

Essays:


>The Importance of Scribes: Discuss why scribes are vital to Gorean society.


>Basic Writing Skills: Explain the importance of clear and accurate writing.


>Introduction to Gorean History and your place in it: Develop a comprehensive biography of your personal history up to this point. Include geographic locations in your life journey with detailed explanations of the Gorean cultures and locations you have experienced reaching the city of Port Olni. Incorporate your family and clan’s past and its relationship to the scribe caste, or other castes your family is affiliated with.  


Apprentice Level

Objective: Develop foundational skills and knowledge.


Essays:


>Keeping Records: Explore the basics of maintaining accurate records. Explore sources of income for scribes in a Bronze Age cultural setting. Describe a plan to create wealth for your practice. 


>Scribes and Daily Life: Discuss how scribes contribute to everyday activities in the city.


>Gor: Describe the physical characteristics of known Gor. Identify the major cultural regions of Gor, describe what makes them culturally unique. Include descriptions of unique flora and fauna encountered within the regions and their behaviors and agricultural use. 


Junior Scribe Level

Objective: Enhance practical skills and apply knowledge.


Essays:


>Writing Legal Documents: Detail the process of creating simple legal documents in the context of a Bronze Age culture. 


>Preserving History: Discuss the importance of keeping historical records.


>Intercity and Regional Politics: Describe Merchant Law, when it is applied and what its jurisdiction is. Describe City or Civil Law, when it is applied and what is its jurisdiction. Compare and contrast the two types of Gorean Law and its application in relationships between Gorean City-States. Discuss why the need of secrecy and confidentiality is important to the process of diplomacy. 


Scribe Level


Objective: Master advanced skills and responsibilities.


Essays:


>Advanced Writing: Explore techniques for writing more complex inter-city documents. Create a summary of documents that are necessary and pertinent to a Bronze Age culture.  


>Economic Records: Discuss the importance of keeping city-state financial records. Explore the relationship between the city-state and the various merchant houses functioning within a city’s civic law jurisdiction.


>Treaties, Agreements, and War: Detail how the city-states of Gor interact politically. Return to Merchant Law and its relationship to interactions between friendly and hostile states within known Gor. Discuss why the need of secrecy and confidentiality is crucial to the success of creating trust in assisting city-state ambassadors and envoys in the management of wartime politics and diplomacy. 


Senior Scribe Level


Objective: Demonstrate mastery and leadership within the caste.


Essays:


>Leading and Teaching: Discuss the role of senior scribes in guiding others.


>Ethics in Record Keeping: Explore the importance of honesty and integrity in a scribe’s work and their need for discretion when working on public projects such as civic law and community administration. 


>Innovations in Writing: Discuss new methods and tools for documentation. ((IC: This includes use of advanced technologies that may be made available to the caste by the Priest Kings. OOC: This includes the use of AI, Word Processing, and Digital Art. Explain how the caste can use these new technologies.))
